Nearus is the divine goddess
of air. She is associated with the winds that move across
the world and the creatures associated with flight. As it
is said she rests in the east, she is associated with this
corner of the world. Those that speak her name in praise
generally will raise their voices and motion towards the
eastern skies of the lands.
She is the patron goddess of the magical
arts as well as scholars, celestial objects, and all things
ethereal.
She is celebrated in the winter months during
the Polar Gala. During this celebration, the people pray
to Nearus and ask her to show mercy during the cold and
bleak winter months. They do this in hopes that she will
direct the chilled winds away from the mainland to avoid
their lands from freezing over.
The citizens, ever vigilant for omens from
Nearus, protect and guard her temple fiercely during this
time to avoid the theft of offerings placed in and around
her temple. It has become a custom for citizens to give
gifts of food and drink to one another during this time,
in hopes it will ward off any theft of the offerings left
for the goddess.
It’s been said that during the winter
months Nearus will transform herself into a snowflake and
fall to the earth below. When a breeze is felt it is believed
to be the goddess floating past in her snowflake form. Those
that feel the breeze, in hopes of locating her, will begin
to gather the snow and melt it down to drink believing they
will be able to consume the spirit of Nearus and gain magical
powers.
Wisdom, war, and retribution are also associated
with this goddess since many people pray for her intercession
in their struggles. Nearus is best known for her fierce
protection of her faithful and for swiftly administering
justice to those that would do her people harm.
